Mālō e lelei!
Next week is Tongan Language Week! Tongan Language Week / Uike Kātoanga’i ‘o e lea faka-Tonga gives students of all ethnicities the chance to learn some basic lea faka-Tonga, and gives students who speak lea faka-Tonga the chance to be experts in the classroom. Check our wall displays for new phrases you might like to try!
Last week we had an amazing performance from the Court Theatre / Y Not collaborative. The show ‘O Le Malaga Fa’a’Atua’ showcased the actors singing, puppetry, and story-telling using both Tongan and Samoan languages. In the show Maui has to make the choice between achieving further glory by defeating a monstrous eel, or being merciful by fulfilling the final request of Tuna and providing for the people forever. (Yes, he did kill an eel, and then bury its guts, which sprouted a tree that grows... ask your child!) It’s the moment when Maui finally understands that helping people is one of the most powerful things you can do and that with great power comes great responsibility.
On Friday 30th August we have a Celebration of Learning in the Wharenui at 9.10am - family are always welcome to attend. Attached below are the lyrics to the song that we have been singing in celebrations this term - There’s Nothing Like a Good Friend
